Great Chillum Community Study has been completed and is now available online.

The Prince George's County Planning Department has completed a study of the Greater Chillum community, which includes the neighborhoods of Avondale, Carole Highlands, Hampshire Knolls, and Lewisdale. The study developed a list of needs and improvement strategies that emphasized neighborhood conservation, pedestrian safety and access, and commercial revitalization.

  • Build upon existing relationships, and develop new relationships to gather information and garner support.
  • Determine necessary land use changes to implement the study's recommendations.
  • Develop recommendations for improving pedestrian safety and access within the existing transportation network.
  • Develop recommendations to enhance community character and distinguish the area as a distinctive place within the County.
  • Outline approaches to support and improve existing housing, identify opportunities for new residential development, and address issues of foreclosure.
  • Prepare economic development strategies to improve and promote new businesses and real estate development in the area.
  • Provide graphic illustrations of key recommendations.
